Annual Power and IT Systems Outage
IT Systems Shutdown the Evening of July 6, 2012

IT networks, servers, and web services (with the exception of the student email service) will be down starting at 7:00 pm on Friday July 6 and will be brought up again after electrical service is restored. Electrical service will be shut off for annual maintenance on Saturday July 7, and into July 8 if needed.

Leave Your Computer Powered On, Friday March 9, 2012

As you leave work on Friday March 9 please log off of your office computer rather than just leaving it on, or shutting it down. ITS would like to be able to push out a new version of the F-Secure anti-virus and anti-intrusion software to as many college computers as possible Friday night, and to do so the machines need to be left powered on.

For this Friday:

- select ‘Log Off’ from the Windows Start Menu,
- follow any prompts to close applications and save your work.

Direct any questions to our Support Centre by phone (403) 529-3899 or email callcentre@mhc.ab.ca.

Planned mymhc.ca Portal Outage, Saturday October 1, 11:00 -12:00
Planned maintenance is required on the mymhc.ca student and faculty portal system.  This necessitates a service outage for approximately one hour starting at 11:00 in the morning of October 1.  No other college web or IT service will be interrupted during this outage.

Planned MHC Server Systems and Networks Outage, Evening of August 18, 2011Starting 5:00 PM August 18 all MHC computer servers, including the MHC website, Blackboard system, employee email, portal and VPN services will be down for some hours. MHC is replacing the main UPS (uninterrupted power supply) system that provides power to the primary server room, and the final switchover will occur Thursday evening. We anticipate power to be restored and all servers back in operation prior to midnight August 18.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this outage, however the switchover is necessary and we have scheduled to try and avoid disruption to college activity as much as is possible.

Planned Blackboard Outage, Afternoon of Monday July 4
The MHC Blackboard system (bb.mhc.ab.ca) will be down for some time after 1:00 PM on Monday July 4. ITS needs to perform some maintenance work and apply updates to the system. We expect the outage to be restricted to a short period of time (under an hour) in the afternoon.

We apologize for  any inconvenience, however such occasional outages are necessary to insure reliable and secure systems.

MHC Planned Power Outage, June 25th and 26th
Computer Systems Shut Down The Evening of Friday June 24

In order to prepare for this power outage, ITS will be shutting down college servers the evening of Friday June 24, 2011 starting at 4:30 PM.  Please be advised that from Friday evening until the power is restored, MHC websites and online services will not be working.

As you leave for the weekend, please 'Shut down' computers that you are working on. Power loss while computers are running can cause damage and data loss. Shutting down, rather than leaving the computer on to go into a low power or sleep mode,  will prevent damage from a power outage.

Employee Email Outage Notification
Scheduled Outage for May 31, 2011 at 10:00 PM

Please be advised that MHC's employee email service will be down for maintenance starting at 10:00 PM on Tuesday May 31. We expect this outage to last under 2 hours. During this time the server will be offline and not able to process email.  No email will be lost during this outage;  received email will be held for delivery once the email service is restarted.  During this outage users will be unable to access Outlook Web Access (OWA). College owned Blackberry devices will sync once the server is back online as will Outlook clients in employee offices.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused, however this is a necessary outage to help ensure security and reliability of our email systems.

Blackboard Outage Notification
Scheduled Outage for 6 May 2011 at 4:00 PM

Please be advised that the MHC Blackboard LMS system will be offline starting at 4:00 PM on Friday May 6 in order to apply a Microsoft 'hot-fix' to repair a server problem. We expect the system to be returned to normal service within an hour.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this service disruption.

Blackboard Problem Resolved
April 10, 2011 1:00 PM

With very heavy use of the Blackboard system as students prepared for final exams we encountered a situation where the system’s storage needs increased more quickly than we anticipated and consumed all of the storage space. As storage space became scarce, users received an error message when they tried to log in to the system. This first started around 7:00 am on the morning of Saturday April 9. We fixed the initial problem by about 10:00 am Saturday morning , but our changes were not enough and we encountered problems again on Sunday morning.

Our techs are monitoring the situation and we will put in place a permanent fix in the coming days.

We, again, apologize for this service disruption.

Blackboard System
April 9- 10, 2011

Please be advised that on April 9 and 10 the MHC Blackboard system has been experiencing intermittent periods when users cannot log in. We believe that the problems relate to server system settings and we are working to address the problem ASAP.
We apologize the inconvenience.
